ORvital: Transforming a tool into a solution

When it comes to acquiring technology to improve healthcare, we must stop asking ourselves what tools we need and think directly about the problems we want to tackle and the results we expect.

The pandemic, despite all the negative effects it has had on all areas, especially hospitals, has given a boost to the digital transformation of healthcare, or at least to make the need for it more visible. The key is not in the acquisition of technology per se, but in betting on solutions that use these means to address concrete and specific problems for the sector.

Why do we need a patient traceability system in a hospital? With tracking tools like this, we can get a lot of really useful data, but the right questions are perhaps how can we streamline patient flow? How do we reduce waiting lists?

So we can either buy tools that give us a lot of data, or we can buy a solution that addresses the particular problem using those tools.

In our case, we use our own RTLS (Real-Time Location System) as a tool to create solutions like ORvital, designed to optimize patient flow through the automation of healthcare processes.

In other words, it is a solution designed to obtain the most valuable asset, time.

ORvital eliminates administrative tasks so that healthcare professionals have more time for patient care, improves team coordination, keeps staff and patients’ families informed at all times, measures processes, and ultimately streamlines them so that the hospital can increase the number of interventions with the resources it has available.

    Challenges addressed by ORvital

    📈 Waiting lists

Waiting lists have become endemic and, with the pandemic, have only worsened. The only way for hospitals to reduce them is to increase staff, working hours, and resources. But is it fair that this pressure should fall on the health care workers? Through ORvital it is possible to optimize the entire process, from the creation of the surgical schedule to real-time control of patient flow from the moment they enter the hospital until they leave.

    👥 Up-to-date information for relatives

Knowing the status of patients is vital for relatives, which is currently more complicated due to the restrictions set out by the COVID-19. This stress and impatience are often unfairly passed on to professionals. Through ORvital’s Virtual Waiting Room or Stela it is possible to inform in real-time about the patient’s condition and not only to those people who are in the health center through information screens but also through an app that is updated instantly and that also offers notifications and messages from the health professionals.

Elimination of unnecessary tasks that detract from the care process

The overload of work for healthcare workers is a real issue, and the fact is that, in addition to attending to patients, the care process requires numerous tasks to be performed that are currently carried out by hand, perfect synchronization between the different departments, real-time communication that is sometimes delayed, …

    With ORvital it is possible:
◆ Reduce downtimes with automatic alerts to orderlies for transfers via an App screen in your control area.
◆ Reduce changeover times with direct notifications from the operating theatre to the orderlies, nursing team, and cleaning team.
◆ Visualize the status of the operating room in real-time, allowing you to instantly detect possible delays and extensions and make decisions as quickly as possible.
◆ Avoid unnecessary transfers when delays occur.
